Introduction

“My doctor has advised me to exercise three times a week, and I agree that I should workout, but deciding what to do at the gym when I go feels overwhelming.  Do I use the cardio equipment? Treadmill? Elliptical? Bike?  Which one is right for me?  Should I use one of the strength machines? Abductor? What is that?  Or should I stretch first? And did I mention that I have a history of back pain and plantar fasciitis?” Diane, age group 65-69, wants to prioritize her health, but when she came to Monarch Fitness Coaching, she was not certain where to begin.

Monarch Fitness Coaching recommends starting with an In-Depth Consultation and Training. The training includes a discussion of your unique goals, training needs, and an evaluation of how you stand and move. Schedule yours HERE. During the initial assessment, clients often tell us that personal training is not a good long-term option and going to a traditional gym with group fitness classes doesn’t work either. We recommend group personal training.

If you are looking for efficient and effective workouts and are experiencing decision fatigue, just thinking about going to the gym, group personal training classes might also be right for you. Group personal training takes the best of group fitness classes and personal training. Each member of the group completes a similar workout with individualized modifications. Looking for cardio training? Take Monarch Fitness Coaching’s Strength and Cardio: Circuit group personal training program.  Looking for strength training? Participate in our Strength: Body Weight Strength group personal training program. All group personal training programs include stretching.

At Monarch Fitness Coaching, we have found that group personal training works well for those who enjoy the camaraderie of a group, learn well working with others, and want accountability and customization.

What is a traditional gym?

Traditional gyms are facilities where you can go to exercise and have access to cardio and strength machines.  Most traditional gyms require a monthly fee. The traditional gym is a great option if you have a good understanding of what training to do in order to accomplish your goals. Many Monarch Fitness Coaching clients use traditional gyms to complete their independent workouts.  Read more about independent workouts HERE.

What is group training?

Traditional gyms often offer group training classes. During group classes, an instructor leads the class through a series of exercises. Often the instructor is in front of the room and models the movements for the class. The instructor typically provides minimal feedback and the classes are not progressive. Group training works well if you understand the movements, can self-regulate, want minimal progression, and enjoy the social interaction. Monarch Fitness Coaching improves upon group training by providing group personal training!

How does Monarch ensure I get individualized attention in group training classes?

Monarch Fitness Coaching creates individualized training programs, even within the group training setting. Prior to attending group personal training, you will work with your primary coach ensuring you have customized work points. Before and during the group personal training class, you will be able to view your program through Monarch Fitness Coaching’s training software, which includes videos, written instructions, sets, reps, and your specific custom feedback. Each person in the class may have a different exercise with the same target—for example, hip stability or bicep strength. This means that while you’re benefiting from the group training’s sense of community and accountability, you’re also completing exercises tailored to support your personalized needs and goals. The approach ensures that every client gets a unique program, while also enjoying the collective energy of group personal training.
