Featured Client: Jon Hoffheimer
“I came to Monarch to become healthy and have fun. Now, my diabetes is managed, and I have lost 57 lbs.”
Goals: Manage type 2 diabetes, have fun
Age Group: 50-54
Challenges: Eating healthy when socializing with friends, consistency
Training Plan: Jon has personal training three times a week, focusing on cardio, strength, and stability. He also participates in group training three times a week.
Jon had worked with Center for Independent Futures and seen some success training. In order to continue progressing toward meeting his goals of keeping his blood sugar down and training consistently, he realized he needed additional support.
Jon has been able to maintain that consistency thanks to his training team, the software training program that Monarch utilizes, and virtual training.
Q and A with Jon (and his mother, Susan)
How did your workouts change when you started training with Monarch Fitness Coaching?
My schedule changes often. Coach Heather adjusts my training so that I can volunteer, work, play basketball, and spend time with friends. This helps me be consistent with my training. Heather also helped me set goals. We created a plan to meet my goals, and we track my progress.
How has Monarch Fitness Coaching helped you meet your goals?
Thanks to the step by step instructions, I can now stand on a bosu. I have lost weight. I no longer roll my ankle, and I rarely hurt myself when I play basketball. I have learned a lot.
When you first started training with Monarch Fitness Coaching, you were afraid to stand on the treadmill. How did you develop the coordination and balance to run on the treadmill?
I listened to my coach’s instructions. I had a positive attitude. Most importantly, I received a lot of encouragement from the training group.
Coach’s note: Jon most recently ran a sub 11 minute mile on the treadmill. We are so proud of his accomplishments!
You are generally a happy person who smiles a lot. What makes you laugh and smile the most at Monarch?
The other clients are fun to be around. They are high energy and have lots of spunk. Sometimes they tell jokes. I like the atmosphere.
What is the biggest benefit of training at Monarch Fitness Coaching?
The training feels good. I am happier. I have more energy, and I have less stress.
What advice do you have for potential clients who are thinking about starting?
Give training a try and see if you like it.
What does Jon’s mom say about the training?
Jon just had his endocrinologist appointment and his A1C was 6.1 (down from 6.5)! The doctor was even thinking it was a bit low.
Jon is loving his training. He likes the folks at Monarch, and I think they are very supportive of Jon and understand how to work with people with special needs. He absolutely knows when he’s doing well and feels so good about that. And even if he has a high blood sugar number (especially when he eats out), the number goes down very quickly when he resumes normal eating.
So, thanks to you for encouraging him so much!
