Challenges: Improving and maintaining stability
Training Plan: Lois participates in in-person and occasionally, when traveling, virtual training. She focuses on improving the strength and stability required to continue moving with ease.
Lois sought out Monarch Fitness Coaching when usual activities became more challenging. Whether traveling, skiing, or sailing, as she aged, Lois wanted to continue going on adventures and having fun.
Lois’ personal training team initially focused on improving her strength and stability. As Lois improved, she was able to add biking, swimming, and jogging in preparation for sprint triathlons. At 72 years old, Lois placed second. Now, at 80 years old (happy birthday, Lois!), she remains healthy and fit, especially when compared to her peers. Lois stated that without the coaching team’s knowledge of her history and ability, “I won’t be doing things I’m doing today.
Q and A with Lois
What were your initial goals? Do you feel like you’ve met them? Have they changed at all over time?
I came to Monarch Fitness Coaching when downhill skiing became more challenging. My husband and I both enjoyed skiing, and I wanted to continue to participate in the activity with him. Now at 80, I want to keep fit and maintain stability so I can keep going.
What is something you’re proud you’ve accomplished because of your training? What was your journey like to get to that goal?
I am proud of my sprint triathlons. I came in second at 72 years old. After improving my strength and stability with the Monarch team, I was able to work on my biking, swimming, and jogging. As I find jogging difficult, training with the group down by the lake provided the community I needed to keep me engaged.
What is something that’s been particularly challenging? How have the trainers supported you?
I find jogging and swimming routines difficult. The work with Monarch is what keeps you fit. As time marches on, I want to continue doing the things I love. The training team is very supportive. They know me, my history, and tailor my workout and training program to my abilities. Even in classes, the training team modifies exercises to best suit my needs.
Why do you continue to train with Monarch?
I continue training with Monarch Fitness Coaching so I can keep functioning. If I stopped, I wouldn’t be able to take care of my house. If I didn’t keep my body in shape, I wouldn’t be able to do the things I wanted to do. I am healthier than all of my friends that are my age. That is motivation right there.
